NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Mar 3, 2016) - Cycle Computing, the leader in cloud computing orchestration software for Big Compute and Big Data, today announced that its Chief Technology Officer, Rob Futrick, will address attendees at the Molecular Med Tri-Conference 2016, to be held March 6-11 at the Moscone North Convention Center in San Francisco. Rob and Cycle Computing are among the 2015 Best Practices Awards competition winners from the 14th Annual Bio-IT World Conference & Expo. Rob has been included in a select group of discussion leaders chosen by the Tri-Conference, because of this past distinction.
Rob will address the Best Practices in Personalized and Translational Medicine course scheduled for Monday, March 7th. His discussion titled, Fighting Cancer Using Cloud to Collaborate & Compute: Gene Fusion Detection Science Project, kicks off the five-pronged course at 8:10 am.
Cycle Computing won the 2015 IT Infrastructure category in the 2015 Best Practices Awards competition at the 14th Annual Bio-IT World Conference & Expo. Cycle and other winners will give attendees at Tri-Conference an in-depth look at cutting edge solutions and techniques for advancing translational medicine research.
Rob will highlight in his discussion how Cycle Computing and a U.S.-based multinational biotechnology company partnered to leverage cloud computing in analyzing The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) data. In the hunt to identify mutations in cancer cells, researchers needed to review 10,000 cancer DNA and RNA samples from TCGA. Cycle software enabled users to quickly, simply, and securely configure and manage large scale clusters and, when the work was completed, consolidate and return results. The research impact was profound and immediate: 15.6 computing years were accomplished in six months; 4,178 tumor samples; 19 cancer types; and 32.2 terabytes of data were processed. Rob's discussion will detail how this work was accomplished and he will share insights for others considering the use of cloud computing in this type of analysis.
Attracting over 3,300 drug discovery and development professionals from over 40 countries in 2015, the Tri-Conference has grown into a diverse event, focusing on Molecular Medicine, specifically on Discovery, Genomics, Diagnostics, and Information Technology. With a 23-year history, this year's expanded coverage includes additional programs on Molecular Diagnostics for Infectious Disease, Precision Medicine, and Cancer Immunotherapy, as well as new symposia on Companion Diagnostics and on the Commercialization of Molecular Diagnostics. Attendees will have the opportunity to listen to many of the over-500 speakers from across all industries, all research fields, and from all over the world.
