SAN MATEO, CA--(Marketwired - Jan 14, 2014) - BookRenter, the leading textbook platform, today announced it has partnered with Staples to power a new textbook rental offering delivered through Staples.com. Through the new service, Staples customers will have access to all of BookRenter's 5.5 million rental titles and will benefit from the platform's low prices, high-quality textbooks, ease of returns and flexible rental experience.
"Students and their families are quickly realizing the significant benefits associated with textbook rentals, and that means they're looking for more ways to get their hands on rentals," said Sara Leoni, vice president, e-commerce, BookRenter. "With Staples' customer base, brand name and decades of experience delivering school materials to students, this partnership allows us to follow through on our mission to make education more affordable and accessible to even more students."
Course materials are the second highest college cost for higher education students, making up as much as 40 percent of the price tag for a degree. The cost of textbooks has risen four times faster than inflation since 1980, with some required titles priced upwards of $250. As a result, more and more students are turning to textbook rentals to keep costs down.
Staples' new offering is powered by BookRenter, a Rafter company, which pioneered the industry with its first textbook rental service in 2006. All orders through Staples.com will be managed by BookRenter.
"We recently launched a brand new Staples.com, which features a faster, easier and more dynamic customer experience, all aimed at improving how customers interact with our website," said Faisal Masud, executive vice president, global e-commerce, Staples. "By providing our customers access to one of the nation's largest and most affordable collection of textbook rentals, Staples is helping to 'make more happen' for students and their families."
Textbook rentals are available immediately at Staples.com.
