Rail technology leader Bombardier Transportation has completed delivery of its European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) Level 2 solution for the Legnica-Wegliniec-Bielawa Dolna section of Poland's E30 line. This landmark project marks the completion of the first implementation in Poland for this new standard specification for the country's entire signalling system.
The contract with PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe included the supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the globally proven BOMBARDIER INTERFLO 450 onboard and wayside rail control system. Connecting to Poland's western border, the line is also part of the modernisation programme of the pan-European transport corridors to support interoperability and coordination was required with rail operators in Germany.
Installing this first mixed ERTMS Level 2 and conventional signalling in operation in Poland has also required a number of important product approvals. Bombardier became the first supplier to have ERTMS authorisation for its EBI Cab 2000 onboard system in Poland earlier this year and is the only supplier with an onboard solution approved to operate with the national signalling system in Poland (SHP-STM).
Peter Cedervall, President, Rail Control Solutions Division, Bombardier Transportation commented: "Today marks a major step towards building a high-technology railway network in Poland. For Bombardier, delivery of this world-class solution adds another important global ERTMS reference, reflecting our technical and project management leadership in delivering today's complex, cross-border mainline rail control technologies."
Bombardier is a leader in the development of ERTMS technology, with solutions operating or being delivered on more than 29,000 km of track and 3,000 vehicles globally. In Poland, Bombardier's INTERFLO 450 solutions are also currently being installed on several other major rail projects including on a further section of the E30, the E65, and Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway lines.
Bombardier is the largest international investor in Poland's rail transportation industry. With about 1,500 employees, it produces locomotive and passenger vehicle car bodies and bogie frames, performs vehicle maintenance, and designs and builds rail control and signaling systems. All main rail lines in Poland, as well as two Warsaw metro lines, are also equipped with rail control systems designed and produced by Bombardier Transportation.
