The AEE working paper will be released on Tuesday, August 11th. A presentation to California energy leaders will take place on Thursday, August 13th at the California Public Utilities Commission in San Francisco, California. The goal of the Working Group is to present a broad vision of how stakeholders in California can move forward together in a more integrated fashion to achieve the state's ambitious and important energy and environmental policy objectives.

Co-authored by BRIDGE Energy Group, alongside other industry leaders participating in the Working Group, O'Brien will present on the topic of System Design and Technology, covering grid architecture and the key enabling technologies required to support an innovative grid.

"The grid environment in California is rapidly evolving as Distributed Energy Resources (DER) and market participants interact across the distribution grid," O'Brien said. "Utilities need to increase their visibility into these diverse resources, transform distribution planning processes and deploy the enabling technologies that can optimize DER, while also maintaining a safe and reliable grid. We are encouraged to see regulators consider these new policies to support advanced grid investments, allow experimentation and facilitate additional open protocols for interoperability, integration and cybersecurity."

Enabling technologies is one of the three key areas that the Working Group has identified as being necessary to achieve an effective energy transition in California. Other areas identified that must be pursued in parallel with this initiative include innovation in product and service delivery, in addition to regulatory framework incentives and revenue mechanisms.

BRIDGE Energy Group continues to drive numerous grid modernization working groups and projects including for New York (Reforming the Energy Vision), Massachusetts, Maryland, Connecticut and others.

"These collaborative dialogs are vitally important to examine the transformation of each state's electric system while also reconciling the diverse interests that come together on today's distribution grid. We're pleased to work with AEE, the California utilities, and other industry leaders to advance the ideas and concepts of a 21st Century Utility," said O'Brien.
