Charles Industries Sets New Standard for Clean On-Board Power With Introduction of Iso-Boost(TM) SAFEtech(TM) Isolation and Boosting Transformers

ROLLING MEADOWS, IL--(Marketwired - Jun 16, 2015) - Charles Marine & Industrial Group today announced the introduction of the latest advancement in isolation and boosting transformers, new 50 and 100 Amp Iso-Boost Transformers featuring advanced SAFEtech™ technology. Offering the highest levels of safe, steady power to marine vessels while isolating the AC shore power from the vessel's AC power system, Iso-Boost SAFEtech transformers set a new industry for performance and safety.

Iso-Boost Transformers now feature Charles Industries' unique SAFEtech technology, so named for its Seamless, Automatic, and Fortified Electronics.

  • Seamless, Automatic - Units transition into boost mode or to non-boost mode seamlessly without power interruptions.
  • Fortified Electronics - Enhanced circuitry provides greater resistance to EMI/RFI emissions and AC power line distortion

SAFEtech allows the transformer to transition into boost mode or to non-boost mode seamlessly without power interruptions. This seamless transfer from boosting power to non-boosting power provides consistent power to electrical/electronic devices that are sensitive to even the briefest power fluctuations or outages. Such devices such as computers, smart appliances, VFDs, and equipment that support DC functions such as power supplies and inverters can be damaged for inconsistent power or power spikes. Iso-Boost SAFEtech transformers eliminate these hazards seamlessly and automatically. SAFEtech technology helps to ensure consistent and spike free power is supplied to your vessel which can enable electronic accessories to function properly and increase their service life.

The "fortified electronics" feature of SAFEtech transformers more accurately senses when to provide boost and when to drop out of boost than competitive transformers. Enhanced circuitry provides greater resistance to EMI/RFI emissions and AC power line distortion. The benefit to vessels is power boosting being accurately activated even when shore power or the vessel has higher rates of EMI/RFI emissions, which can harmfully effect operation of equipment and potentially damage that equipment. This type of "dirty power" is becoming more frequent in the marine environment due to a variety of factors including VFD drives, poor municipal / utility power, and interference from nearby vessels sharing your power grid. SAFEtech automatically corrects "dirty" power to provide consistent nominal voltage.

Iso-Boost SAFEtech isolation and boosting transformers are available in two models:

  • ISO-BOOST 50 with SAFEtech: Input Voltage of 208/240 VAC, Input Current of 50 Amps; Output Voltage of (nominal) 120/240 VAC; rated at Continuous 12.0 KVA; Operating Frequency 50/60Hz
  • ISO-BOOST 100 with SAFEtech: Input Voltage of 208/240 VAC, Input Current of 100 Amps; Output Voltage of (nominal) 120/240 VAC; rated at Continuous 24.0 KVA; Operating Frequency 50/60 Hz

All Iso-Boost SAFEtech transformers meet ABYC requirements and have passed stringent testing including EMI/RFI emissions and AC power line distortion filtering, and have achieved Marine UL Listing.

Charles Industries continues to develop the most innovative and robust products in the marketplace. Its engineering and design team has proactively developed SAFEtech technology to help ensure marine vessels have proper power even in today's worsening electrical environment. All Iso-Boost SAFEtech transformers are manufactured in the USA and include a 1-year limited manufacturer's warranty.
