Giant Tiger Celebrates the Huron Heights Warriors; with Donation to Food Bank

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 29, 2012) - When the Huron Heights Warriors won the 2012 Metro Bowl against Rob Ford's Don Bosco Eagles, Newmarket Giant Tiger store owner Rob Bourdeau knew he wanted to help make the win stick. And what better way than with 200 jars of peanut butter to the Newmarket Food Pantry! Giant Tiger donates hundreds of thousands of dollars annually to food banks across Canada.

The Huron Heights Warriors, from Newmarket, Ontario, defeated the team coached by Ford, at the Metro Bowl on Tuesday night by a score of 28-14. Echoing the mayoral bet from the Grey Cup, Newmarket Mayor Tony Van Bynen challenged the losing team's mayor to donate his weight in food to the winning team's food bank. Mayor Van Bynen pushed for a donation of peanut butter, one of the most-needed items at the Newmarket Food Pantry. When Rob Bourdeau heard about the bet from his Mayor he knew he could do one better. "Giant Tiger has a history of supporting food banks and local sports teams. I knew that this would be a great way to show how proud we all are of the Warriors".

The presentation will take place on Friday, November 30, 2012, at approximately 2:45 p.m. as part of the celebratory parade in Newmarket. Residents of Newmarket are encouraged to come out and cheer on the winning team and bring their own donations to the Newmarket Food Pantry.
