ITRC Offers TrustedID's Proactive Solution, IDFreeze, to Identity Theft Victims


SAN FRANCISCO, CA--(Marketwire - January 15, 2008) - TrustedID and ITRC announced today that the Identity Theft Resource Center (ITRC), a national nonprofit organization dedicated to preventing identity theft and assisting its victims, has selected TrustedID's IDFreeze to proactively protect consumers against identity theft, one of the nation's fastest-growing crimes.

With IDFreeze, ITRC enables individuals and families to prohibit the three major credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion, from releasing credit reports to lenders without their direct permission.

According to a 2007 Gartner study, identity theft affected more than 15 million Americans in 2006. This means that there were almost 30 new victims every minute or one new victim every two seconds. The study also found that the average financial loss more than doubled in one year, rising from $1,400 in 2005 to nearly $3,300 in 2006. The Federal Trade Commission's most recent survey found that some 2005 victims spent almost 60 hours trying to clean up the damage caused by an identity thief.
