Konica Minolta Enables Point-of-Care Imaging at Pathway to Health Mega Clinic Event in Los Angeles

WAYNE, NJ--(Marketwired - Jun 16, 2016) - When more than 10,000 people showed up at the Los Angeles Convention Center in late April for free healthcare being offered by Your Best Pathway to Health, Konica Minolta Medical Imaging's SONIMAGE HS1 ultrasound and AeroDR wireless digital flat panel detector were critical components enabling point-of-care imaging to diagnose a variety of conditions.

According to Melody Pierson, Assistant Imaging Director at Pathway to Health, the organization relied on the two SONIMAGE HS1 units provided by Konica Minolta for over 6,500 ultrasound exams during the three-day Mega Clinic event at the Los Angeles Convention Center April 27-29, 2016.

Dr. Randy Bivens, Imaging Director of Pathway to Health, was also impressed by the power of the laptop-sized SONIMAGE HS1. "Image quality has been dramatically changing over the last 10 years. On a very small platform you can get extremely high quality images with the colorful Doppler. We did a carotid ultrasound on one of the platforms and it handled it very adeptly. We are just so pleased that Konica Minolta has stepped forward and allowed us to use their equipment to provide this free healthcare service to the community."

In addition to the SONIMAGE HS1 ultrasound systems, Konica Minolta in partnership with Radiographic Equipment Services, Inc., an authorized dealer for Shimadzu, also provided a mobile X-ray: a Shimadzu MobileArt Evolution EFX portable X-ray unit with a Konica Minolta AeroDR wireless digital flat panel detector. This system-one of two mobile DR systems available at the clinic-performed hundreds of DR exams over the course of the event.

Your Best Pathway to Health-a non-profit service of the Adventist-Layman's Services & Industries (ASI), in partnership with the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Adventist Health, Loma Linda University Health, and other entities-held the three-day mega clinic to provide medical, surgical, vision and dental services to the residents of metro Los Angeles, all free of charge. Of the more than 10,000 people who stood in line for free healthcare, just over 8,500 were treated.
