Lakeshore Recycling Systems Partners With Lupus Society of Illinois to Increase Lupus Awareness

Lakeshore Recycling Systems Raises Money and Company-Wide Participation for Lupus Society of Illinois September Walk

CHICAGO, IL--(Marketwired - September 01, 2016) - Lakeshore Recycling Systems (LRS), Chicagoland's leading independent recycling and waste diversion services provider, this month will be spreading lupus awareness at Lupus Society of Illinois' (LSI) Chicago Walk. As a company actively involved in the Chicagoland community, LRS is bringing together all 600+ employees, families and friends to support LSI's goals of finding a cure for lupus and raising funding for research.

"We are very excited for Lakeshore Recycling Systems to become a part of the largest and longest running Illinois lupus walks," said LSI Vice President Mary Dollear. "Together, we will increase awareness and raise funds to help the lupus community and find a cure to this often devastating disease."

LSI promotes lupus awareness and provides resources for the lupus community while supporting research. Lupus is a complex disease that causes a weak immune system and can affect many parts of the body.

LRS is sponsoring LSI's walks throughout Chicagoland, including the participation of all six LRS facilities to register for the Chicago Walk and make a contribution, which will be matched by the company. LRS' five teams welcome all employees and their family members and friends to come together in this community-changing event. Each team has a goal to raise $5,000, totaling a company goal of $25,000, which is in addition to the sponsorship level contributed by LRS. The Chicago Walk will be held on Sunday, September 18.

"Lupus is a worthy cause that we are proud to support," said Chief Executive Officer Alan T. Handley. "We have over 600 men and women joining forces under the LRS name working collectively to benefit our customers and community. It was an easy decision to stand behind LSI and I am confident that our support will bring LSI one step closer to improving the lives of those suffering today."

About Lupus
Every day, an estimated 1.5 million Americans struggle with the often debilitating and disabling health effects of lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation and tissue damage to virtually every organ system in the body.

Lupus can be fatal, is difficult to diagnose, has no cure and few treatments are available. Ninety percent of people with lupus are women and minorities are two to three times more likely to acquire the disease, however; anyone at any age can get the disease. Knowing the signs and symptoms of lupus is essential to early diagnosis. Contact the LSI for more information at info@lupusil.org or call 312.542.0002.
