LAS VEGAS, NV--(Marketwired - Jun 13, 2014) - SmartMetric, Inc. (
The changeover in the United States to chip based cards is bringing the USA into line with most other developed countries who have for some years been using payments cards with chips on them. It is reported that 1.65 billion payments cards with EMV chips on them have been issued around the world to date.
The SmartMetric in-card fingerprint reader adds a higher level of security to the chip only cards that still rely primarily on the user inputting a pin number. Using a miniature fingerprint reader built inside the card, the cards chip is turned on and activated to allow a card transaction only after a successful authentication of the card user's fingerprint, according to SmartMetric's President & CEO, Chaya Hendrick. "This is an amazing leap forward in making payments cards safer for banks and consumers alike," she said.
SmartMetric is actively working with payment card issuers in adoption of its biometric fingerprint technology for use in EMV chip and pin cards around the world.
