Taqtile Releases HoloMaps for Microsoft HoloLens

Holographic mapping solution designed for organizations seeking better data insights and team collaboration using mixed-reality

SEATTLE, WA--(Marketwired - Nov 15, 2016) - Taqtile, a developer of mobile, virtual, and mixed reality software and solutions, today announced the availability of Taqtile HoloMaps, a 3D holographic map and model explorer for Microsoft HoloLens. Anyone who owns a HoloLens can download HoloMaps for free in the Microsoft Windows Store. Taqtile HoloMaps is the first app of its kind for navigating through a holographic model while simultaneously overlaying real-time data in either a solo or shared experience. The Store Edition integrates Bing 3D to deliver over 200 cities and landmarks as a 3D model of any size with real-time data overlays for current weather and forecast, traffic flow lines and incidents, and geo-tagged tweets.

According to Taqtile, the HoloMaps platform was designed specifically to enable small businesses, enterprises, and government organizations to view topography, infrastructure, and buildings in 3D while integrating with a variety of data sources to bring contextually relevant information into view. Users can now collaborate and present to colleagues in the same room or remotely.

"The list of use cases for HoloMaps is extensive, because the sources of data are endless," said Taqtile Co-Founder Dirck Schou. "Think about how you currently visualize spatial data on flat monitors and on paper. Now think about how you would do that in 3D, and how interactions of data can be represented, which is difficult because it hasn't been done before. For example, HoloMaps will allow a city planner to visualize utilities, demographics and traffic flows, all at the same time, all while collaborating with colleagues in the same room, or across town. HoloMaps is going to be a game-changer."

HoloMaps can be customized to enable enterprises to:

  • Dynamically load, place, and explore holographic maps
  • View contextual data about, or overlaid upon, holographic maps
  • Annotate holographic maps/models
  • Collaborate and/or present holographically to others on, or off premise
  • Capture pictures and videos to present and share

As an early customer of HoloMaps, the PGA Tour successfully demonstrated its customization of the platform during the 2016 Players Championship, held annually at the PGA Tour's home golf course, the TPC at Sawgrass, in Ponte, Vedra, Fla. The Tour's application features a 3D holographic map of the full course, along with geolocated data from the Tour's Shotlink tool that enables accurate shot location data to be represented on a map.

This construct enables a variety of things: golfer analysis of their shots, and shots of their competitors; allows for the PGA Tour's operations staff to manage the layout of the site virtually; provides rules officials an opportunity to set up the golf course for competition based on data; and enables event planners to map out corporate tents and concession areas so that foot traffic moves accordingly.

"We are very excited about the possibilities mixed-reality brings that offer new perspectives for our fans to help the appreciate the skill of PGA TOUR players and the drama that takes place at our tournaments every week," said Steve Evans, the PGA Tour's SVP of Information Systems. "The size and scope of our playing fields offer a unique visual challenge and the promise of this technology is really big in bringing to life the skill it takes to compete every week on TOUR. It's particularly exciting to see the integration of data from our ShotLink system powered by CDW."

Taqtile has also worked with Microsoft to enable its Microsoft Technology Centers (MTC) to demonstrate HoloMaps enterprise edition to select partners and customers.
