NEW YORK, NEW YORK--(Marketwired - June 11, 2015) - Terrestrial Energy announces that it has appointed Christine Todd Whitman to its International Advisory Board. Ms. Whitman served as Administrator of the US Environmental Protection Agency from January of 2001 until June of 2003 and was also the 50th Governor of the State of New Jersey, serving from 1994 until 2001. Ms. Whitman's extensive experience in energy and environmental issues will provide substantial benefits to Terrestrial Energy as it continues to advance its Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) project.
Ms. Whitman has been one of the foremost advocates for environmental protection for many decades, as well as a leading voice for the use of nuclear power to decarbonize the world's energy supply. Ms. Whitman co-chairs the Clean and Safe Energy Coalition (CASEnergy), which has a membership in excess of 3,900, including Terrestrial Energy. The coalition's objective is to support the use of nuclear energy to ensure an affordable, environmentally-clean, reliable and safe supply of electricity.
Ms. Whitman made the following comments regarding her appointment: "I am pleased to lend my support and counsel to Terrestrial Energy. Their IMSR technology has numerous advantages including its small modular design, reduced cost, increased safety, and small waste footprint. I believe small modular reactors can be a critical component in the global efforts to reduce air pollution and combat climate change."
About Terrestrial Energy
Terrestrial Energy has the objective of beginning commercial deployment of its proprietary Molten Salt Reactor technology by early next decade. Molten Salt Reactor technology represents a revolution in nuclear safety, waste and proliferation resistance, and in energy cost-competitiveness. Terrestrial Energy's Integral Molten Salt Reactor (IMSR) is a small modular design, with models ranging from 80 MWth to 600 MWth - ideally suited for remote communities and industrial operations, including on- and off- grid power provision. Terrestrial Energy's board consists of executives from the nuclear, utility and finance industries.
