SALT LAKE CITY, UT--(Marketwired - Nov 4, 2014) - The Eye Institute of Utah is excited to announce a new way for patients to access their doctor and medical records. The NextGen Patient Portal, powered by NextMD, connects directly with the Salt Lake City ophthalmology practice's electronic medical records (EMR) system to allow patients access to their medical records with the click of a mouse. The patient portal is a secure, 128-bit encrypted connection, giving patients the ability to request prescription refills, view upcoming appointments, update medical information, and message their physician.
"The Patient Portal is a great resource for patients because they can access their medical information from any internet-accessible device at their own convenience. This cuts out the middle man and gives the patient more direct access and control over their protected health information," explained Karen Bachman, Practice Administrator at The Eye Institute of Utah.
Additional features of the patient portal will be available in the near future including the ability to view and pay bills directly from the patient portal and the ability to fill out paperwork prior to coming in for appointments. All of these features, available through the patient portal, should help streamline patient communications and improve the efficiency and quality of care available.
Patients are able to enroll in the patient portal during their appointment check-in process at The Eye Institute of Utah. Staff members will need to verify the patient's identity and confirm a valid email address in order to issue an Enrollment Token. Patients will receive instructions on how to use the Enrollment Token to set up their secure patient portal account. To help streamline questions and offer assistance for patients setting up and utilizing their new NextMD Patient Portal account, the Help Desk team at The Eye Institute is available Monday through Friday during regular business hours.
