Vehicles Freeze Up as Severe Cold Hits Most of the Country

Although snow poses big challenges to drivers, it's actually the severe cold that can be the biggest culprit. When vehicles are exposed to severe cold, they can become sluggish, freeze up and stop running altogether. What many don't realize is that fluids like gasoline and windshield washer fluid can crystalize and 'freeze' in cold temperatures when not treated properly. • Add Anti-freeze in Freezing Temps- Fuel system freezing occurs when water vapor mixes with residual fuel in the line any time the temperature drops below 32 degrees (F). Adding an antifreeze treatment like HEET to the fuel tank helps remove water from the fuel system to prevent gas-line freeze-up and harmful rust and corrosion. • Check Tire Treads & Air Pressure- Before hitting the road, check tires for both wear and air. Balding tires can cause major issues including lost traction and even blowouts. Also check the air pressure on your tires. While they should be full, they shouldn't be too full, or they could burst.
