Walking Again and Climbing the Grand Canyon Thanks to a Biorobotic Technology Developed by B-TEMIA

QUÉBEC CITY, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - April 13, 2016) - One month after enabling a young female stroke survivor from Hamilton, ON, to climb the Grand Canyon, B-TEMIA, Inc. strikes again by providing an opportunity for an Asheville, NC, woman with an incomplete spinal cord injury to walk her first steps following paralysis, thanks to Keeogo™, a unique robotized walking device based on B-TEMIA's proprietary Dermoskeleton™ technology.

March 26, 2016, was a day to remember for Shannon Chisholm, Miss Wheelchair North Carolina 2015. Five years after sustaining an injury as a result of a car accident, which left her partially paralyzed and reliant on a wheelchair for daily ambulation, Shannon was able to walk and dance thanks to the assistance of Keeogo™. This remarkable trial was carried out by a B-TEMIA partner, Able Bionics, a rehabilitation clinic based in London, Ontario.

"I will always be forever grateful to B-TEMIA and Able Bionics for giving me the ability to walk and dance with my husband and two beautiful children for the first time since my accident," mentioned Shannon Chisholm.

"Keeogo™ was developed for individuals with mobility impairments. Every day, working with our clients, we witness how the device that we created is changing lives. Bringing this disruptive technology to market is not a small task, and we are very proud to count on innovative clinical partners like Able Bionics," stated Stéphane Bédard, founder, President and CEO of B-TEMIA.

"Able Bionics is proud to use Keeogo™ in our partnering clinics. We have achieved great results so far, and look forward to helping diffuse this life-altering technology to those who will most benefit from it," said Mitch Brogan, President of Able Bionics.

Julia's Inspirational Story

Julia, a student at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, sustained a stroke in January 2013 which affected her mobility on the left side of her body resulting in limitations to daily activities. She relies on a walker or cane to get from place to place and climbing stairs and walking long distances are extremely difficult tasks.

Thanks to B-TEMIA's Early Adopter Program, Julia was able to obtain her own Keeogo™. Wearing the device has afforded Julia significant independence in her daily life and enables her to do things like dance with her friends, climb stairs, work in a laboratory, and do without her walker or cane.

Last month, Julia took part in a new adventure and realized a long-time dream: climbing the Grand Canyon. Her Keeogo™ allowed her to live this high-intensity experience, which seemed totally impossible to her before. While in the past, people were telling her about limitations, today Julia speaks about possibilities!
