MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwire - Sept. 26, 2012) - Martin Roy and Isabelle Tremblay are all smiles when reviewing their 2012 season in the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series, with the former winning the Rookie the Year title and the latter for placing in the top 10 twice in just six races. In its very first season, the Martin Roy Race Team proved that its two drivers were worthy of rivalling any other team on the roster. Furthermore, this year helped to strengthen the ties between the two drivers and their crews.
"My goal was to race against the very best, and that's exactly what I did," Martin Roy explained. "The same is true for Isabelle, who proved she is fast enough to compete within the top 10."
Martin Roy, a seasoned driver with over 26 years of car racing experience, has a few great reasons to commend himself on a job well done this past season. At the wheel of his Dodge #90 Veloce/Gamache Truck Centre/Batteries Expert, he finished in the top five at two races, in the top 10 at another two races and ranked eighth overall in the championship. This earned him the "Rookie of the Year" title, which will be officially presented on December 8 in Charlotte, North Carolina.
"My objective this year was to finish in the top ten," he recalled. "Then in Barrie, I led a race for the first time, then again at the Riverside International Speedway in Nova Scotia and finally in Kawartha, during the last race of the season, I fought for second place for quite a while. Circumstances left me with a fifth place finish in Kawarhta, but in all reality, I was just as fast as the driver who placed second. We are stronger than we anticipated. This is all very encouraging for next year."
"I am tremendously proud of what we have accomplished as a team," he explained. "Back in January, we didn't even have a screwdriver. We had to climb the rungs two at a time, and since then, we have built a great team. There have been a few obstacles, but these were due to bad luck, not negligence. Everyone was great and the chemistry is terrific with Isabelle Tremblay. She is incredibly talented."
Isabelle Tremblay, who raced in six of the 12 events in the series, was impressive. Her Dodge #07 Frank Lyman Desing finished in the top 10 twice. This is quite a feat for the young lady - the only one on the circuit - who entered the world of automobile racing just four years ago. She loves interacting with racing enthusiasts, and the public loves her: she is presently leading in the votes for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series' most popular driver of the year.
Her goal in 2013 is to participate in all twelve races during the season and to finish among the top five a few times at least. She hopes that her major sponsor, Frank Lyman Desing, will continue to support her. She cannot speak highly enough of Martin Roy, the team's owner. "I feel 110 per cent supported," she said. "He is a talented driver in addition to being a top notch manager who has given me great advice. His team has become my family."
Together, Martin Roy and Isabelle Tremblay intend to further the progress of the Martin Roy Race Team in 2013. In the coming weeks they will identify new objectives and will begin the process to achieve them, and who knows, maybe they'll include a championship in the plans.
